6 PLASTIC FACTS ABOUT THE BALTIC SEA

Baltic Sea Plastic Foundation was created to replace persistent plastics in the packaging of consumable products and industries from biodegradable plastics. Baltic Sea Plastic Foundation is part of a global network in 80 countries. On this page is collected news and activities to be implemented and is effective for K-Show 2010 and SCANPACK2011

CONTROLLED-LIFE PLASTIC

Hello

The plastic problem is becoming serious, both globally, regionally and locally. Joint coordination is the solution. Where in the food chain finally the plastic particles ends up? The high levels of plastic, thousands of plastic particles per cubic meter of seawater, which were found in an alarming global reports, since 10 years back, has now been detected even in "our protected water!" Sweden did not realize that the problem of plastic waste was so great. Make a green choice - Time to act NOW!

Why can’t all plastics degrade? They can. All plastics will eventually degrade and be bioassimilated, but modern plastics will last for many decades after they have served their purpose. The answer is to make them biodegradable. This is done by putting a small amount of Controlled-life additive into the plastic, which breaks the molecular chains and makes it degrade then biodegrade in the presence of air, on land or at sea, in the light or the dark, in heat or cold, in whatever timescale is required, leaving NO methane, and NO toxic dust or any other harmful residues. Oxo-plastic can be tested according to American Standard 6954, and is certified safe for food-contact. Plastic is normally made from a by-product of oil refining which used to be wasted, so nobody is importing extra oil to make it. Oxobio can be recycled, and made from recyclate.

Unfortunately, plastic problems are insurmountable, globally, regionally and now locally too

ENVIRONMENT PROJECT "THE RIGHT PLASTIC POLICY"

Plastic is fantastic!

Plastic is strong, durable, versatile, hygienic and inexpensive. It is made from a by-product of oil refining which used to be wasted, so nobody is importing oil to make it.

Why degradable?

Some of the plastic escapes and becomes an environmental hazard, by littering our countryside and oceans or being eaten by animals.

d2w Controlled-life Plastic can be made to degrade from as little as six months onwards, leaving no fragments and without emitting methane. It can be recycled with normal plastics (see www.biodeg.org/position-papers/recycling), or incinerated for energy-recovery. It can be tested according to ASTM D6954-04.

Many people do not realise that ordinary plastic will become embrittled and will then completely biodegrade. The only problem is that it takes too long.
Nobody knows exactly how long, but modern plastics will lie or float around for many decades in the environment – and possibly hundreds of years.

It will never be possible to collect all the plastic waste, so Controlled-life plastic technology is designed to solve this problem - it accelerates the process so that the plastic waste will degrade and disappear in the same way as nature’s waste such as leaves and straw, but in a much shorter timescale, leaving no harmful residues. Symphony’s d2w additive has been proved to be non-toxic, and is certified safe for food-contact.

During its lifetime - d2w® controlled degradation of plastics, operates in exactly the same way as ordinary plastic.

Switch Pac is in Stockholm and represents SYMPHONY ENVIRONMENTAL Ltd., UK. The company was listed in 2006. Symphony is a world leader and a pioneer in the Oxo-plastics innovation with R&D, certification and testing of Oxo-biodegradable additive

The products have been developed through 20 years of R&D, reports and documentation that is evidence of product performance

We are working to offer biodegradable plastic material in the consumable products
d2w® is certified and meets the standards and requirements for the overall degradation

Frequently consumption plastics (LDPE, HDPE and PP products) may be bio-degradable with d2w®
Ie. the plastic breaks down and disappears after about 3 years

18 months shelf time (nothing happens with the plastic under the maintenance of stabilizers)
18 months life time (depending on oxygen and UV light, heat and motion)

We can help with e.g. PP films or other flexible plastic solutions

Please ask us your questions. We are interested in helping you
